The number of women in prison has increased 400% since 1986.
Passages targets the heart of the problem of reincarceration - the rotating prison door - with its Transformation Program. When a woman successfully completes the program she will go on to experience a positive impact upon her own life as well as on those around her and in our communities.
However, the number of women released from prison for addiction-related crimes far exceeds the present capacity of Passages to help stop the cycle of abuse, addiction and imprisonment. We've got to start somewhere. . .but we can't do it without your help. Without Passages, many women coming out of prison will have no place to go except back to their old lives.
UP TO 90% OF WOMEN IN PRISON WERE ABUSED AS LITTLE GIRLS
OVER 70% OF WOMEN IN PRISON ARE MOTHERS OF MINOR CHILDREN
HALF OF WOMEN RELEASED FROM PRISON WILL BE REINCARCERATED WITHIN THREE YEARS.
Mission Statement - To guide and support women through a transformational process for positive sustainable life-change.
Vision Statement - Women coming from incarceration and/or homelessness achieving their ultimate potential.
The Transformation Program is in place to help a woman put the pieces of her life back together. This is accomplished by replacing the lies in her life with the truth that she is valued.
By teaching her positive life skills,
she learns to cultivate a relationship
with God and with the people in her life.
The Program consists of specific activities with goals to be accomplished in the following areas:
Upon Entering the program each resident is assigned a Transition Coach, who is a trained volunteer. Each coach will work with just one woman at a time for the entire year she is in the program. Her coach will meet with her weekly to provide assistance where needed in achieving the goals she has set for herself.
Each woman who chooses to go through the Passages Transformation Program must:
The Passages Transformation Program is designed to be completed in eighteen months. Passages participants are asked upon applying to commit to a minimum of six months to be completed. After completion of six months women may be invited to apply for the full year long program to complete the eighteen months.
Resident Application - Women wishing to apply for participation in the Passages Transformation Program must first complete a pre-application and submit it to Passages for consideration. This pre-application can be obtained through their case manager. The pre-application can be downloaded here: Pre-application form.
Once we receive the pre-application we will contact the case manager to arrange for a telephone interview. At that time it will be determined whether the applicant should complete a full application for final consideration. The full application can be downloaded here: Full application form.
Volunteer Application - If you are interested in helping, please go to the Volunteers/Sponsors webpage. There you will find specifically where your help is needed and can download a form to become a member of PATHS, our volunteer organization.
Passages is modeled after the highly successful Chrysalis Women's Transitional Living Inc., founded in Boise, Idaho by Marsha Tennyson in 2001. Passages, like Chrysalis, helps women take the necessary steps which take them away from their former destructive lifestyles and towards independence. The project started to take shape in 2008 and by 2013 the first resident woman moved in and Passages Women's Transitional Living was born.
Passages Women's Transitional Living is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. We are a faith-based ministry, not affiliated with any church or denomination, focused on providing reentry services to women making the transition from prison.
We Believe. . .
in one God, who exists in three Persons the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is loving, holy and just.
the Bible is God’s Word. It is inspired and accurate. It is our perfect guide in all matters of life.
sin has separated us all from God, and that only through Jesus Christ can we be reconciled to God.
Jesus Christ is both God and Man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He led a sinless life, took all our sins upon Himself, died and rose again. Today, He is seated at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Mediator.
salvation is the gift of God to man. This gift is affected by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and it produces works pleasing to God.
water baptism is an outward act that demonstrates a believer's identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
the Holy Spirit is our indwelling Comforter, teacher, and guide for all areas of our lives. He also blesses us with spiritual gifts and empowers us to yield the fruit of the Spirit.
Holy Communion is a celebration of Jesus death and our remembrance of Him.
God wants to transform, heal and prosper us, so that we can live blessed and victorious lives that will impact and help others.
we are called to preach the gospel to all nations.
our Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again just as He promised.
